Significant achievements in research & development
  • Design of a prototype of double compartment device for micro- and macroplastic entrapment in flowing water’ (Application submitted for Provisional Patent).
  • The immobilization of whole live cells of Strenotrophomonas sp & Chlorella vulgaris entrapped in calcium alginate beads has been developed as biocatalysts in bioremediation of Chlorpyrifos, an Organophosphorous insecticide. Based on performance, 51.4% & 20% higher removal efficiency was achieved with bacterial-alginate & algal alginate beads respectively than free cells.
  • Standardised the methodology for biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticle through non-heterocystous cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis. The nanocrystalline state of AgNPs were characterised by XRD analysis. The smaller size, stability and functional group were characterized by AFM, Zeta potential analyser and FTIR.
  • Standardised the culture technique of Spirulina platensis in Inland saline water during summer and winter and also assessed the Carbon sequestration potential of Spirulina cultured in inland saline ecosystem.
  • Database of seasonal prevalence of bacteria, parasites, water quality and soil quality of cage culture ecosystem in four reservoirs of Maharastra is established.
