भा.कृ.अनु. प. - के. मा. शि. सं. मुंबई विश्व का एकमात्र ऐसा संस्थान है जो मात्स्यिकी विज्ञान के अधिकतम ग्यारह विशेषीकृत संकायों में दो वर्षीय स्नातकोत्तर और तीन वर्षीय डॉक्टरेट (पी.एच.डी.) डिग्री प्रदान करता है । के. मा. शि. सं. विश्व विद्यालय अनुदान आयोग अधिनियम 1953 के भाग 3 के तहत अपने को 1989 से समतुल्य विश्वविद्यालय के रूप में पहचाने जाने के समय से अपनी स्वयं की उपाधियां प्रदान करता है ।
वर्तमान में विश्वविद्यालय छ: प्रमुख प्रकार्यात्मक प्रभाग/विभागों में संगठित है, जिसमें से प्रत्येक, एक या दो स्नातकोत्तर एवं डाक्टोरल उपाधि प्रदान करते हैं ।

Post-graduate Programs offered by CIFE, Mumbai
a) Diploma in Fisheries Science
CIFE made its beginning in 1961 as a Centre catering to the training needs of the Fisheries Sector. A two-year Diploma in Fisheries Science was offered at CIFE from 1961 to 1999. A total of 992 Indian & 40 foreign students have availed this course till 1999 after which this Diploma has been withdrawn. The program was subsequently recast into more specialized Masters' programs.
b) M. Sc.
After the Deemed University status was conferred on CIFE in 1989, two M.Sc. programmes namely Fisheries Management and Inland Fisheires Administrative and Management were started. In 1994 another programme in Mariculture was initiated at CMFRI, Kochi
c) M.F.Sc.
In 1995, the Post graduate degree was termed as M.F.Sc. and programmes were renamed as Fisheries Resource Management, Inland Aquaculture and Mariculture. In 1998, two new programmes, Post-Harvest Technology at CIFT and Freshwater Aquaculture at CIFA were initiated. Thereafter new courses were added based on the need of fisheries sector.
Post-graduate degree programmes in three new disciplines were commenced in the Academic Year 2001. These are Fish Genetics & Biotechnology (FGB), Fish Pathology & Microbiology (FPM) and Fish Nutrition & Biochemistry (FNB) with 5 seats each.
