International Day of Yoga was celebrated at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai

  • International Day of Yoga, 21st June 2016 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai. ICAR-CIFE organized a ‘Yoga by the Mangroves Workshop’ in which two Yoga instructors taught Yoga to a keen audience comprising of ICAR-CIFE staff and their families, students and also the staff of Mumbai Research Centre of ICAR-CMFRI.

    The workshop started with an address by Dr. Gopal Krishna, Director, ICAR-CIFE where he highlighted the importance of Yoga. A brief introduction of Yoga instructors was presented by Dr. Arpita Sharma, Principal Scientist, who coordinated the programme. The two instructors were Mr. Chandan and Ms. Amynah Lakhany.

    The workshop started with a prayer as per the Common Yoga Protocol given by Ministry of AYUSH. After this, various Yoga Asanas, Surya namaskar, Pranayam were demonstrated by the trainers. These were practiced by the participants under the guidance of the trainers. An interactive session on common ailments and how they can be treated by practicing Yoga and good dietary habits was also held. The queries of the participants were related to various ailments like high blood pressure, diabetes, joint pains, migraine etc. The Workshop ended with the Omkar chanting followed by Vote of Thanks.
