World Education Congress presented Award to Dr. Gopal Krishna Joint Director of ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education as 100 Most Influential Directors of India (Education)

  • Post Graduate from CSA University, Mathura Campus in Animal Genetics and Breeding, presently working as a Joint Director and Director Acting at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai; worked as Head, Division of Fish Genetics and Biotechnology for about 10 years at CIFE and engaged in research and academics, with over all experience of more than 26 years; completed 14 research projects as PI and Coordinator: on Mahseer population genetics (AP Cess Fund) and Mahseer conservation – ongoing (NFDB), selective breeding of P. monodon (NORAD, Norway); generated funds (approx.. ~325 Lacs) in terms of externally funded projects and training fees (approx. ~5lacs); guided 3 PhD (7 ongoing) and 18 MFSc (2 ongoing) students; organized 16 national and international training programs; attended three international trainings; visited five countries on official assignments; published 55 research papers in peer reviewed journals, more than 55 technical communications, authored books and contributed papers in books and manuals and 4 Gene Bank submissions. Guided divisional research and academic activities as Chairman, Board of Studies for more than a decade and presently as Chairman, Extension council and Board of Management, Academic council of CIFE etc.

    Received Dr. Rajendra Prasad ICAR National Award for co-authoring Fish Genetics and Biotechnology book in Hindi; honored as the Fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences and Fellow of Academy of Sciences for Animal Welfare. The significant contribution include Human Resources Development in Fish Genetics and Biotechnology, Infra-structure development as Head of the division, Organized National and International workshops and training programs. Generated funds for research, extension and development of the sector, Guiding scholars in the frontier areas of Genetics and Biotechnology for their masters’ and doctoral program. The alumnus of the division are working as ARS Scientists, State Fisheries department Officers, Bankers, Professors and Research scholars in various organizations in India and abroad. One of the Ph.D. scholars has been awarded Jawahar Lal Nehru Best Thesis Award of ICAR (2015).
