  • CIFE Kakinada Centre is having the first and the only Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) approved farm facility for Litopenaeus vannamei farming in the public sector in the country. CIFE Kakinada Centre was established in October 1968 after taking over the brackishwater fish farm at Kakinada from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. The freshwater fish farm located at Balabadrapuram, a village located at equidistance of 35 km between Rajahmundry and Kakinada, was taken on a long term lease basis from Goverment of Andhra Pradesh by CIFE, Mumbai.

    Today, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kakinada Centre, conducts training programme on various aspects of aquaculture namely Brackish water Aquaculture, Freshwater Aquaculture and carp and catfish seed production technologies. It has also standardized the farming practice of L. vannamei for low intensive shrimp farming practices for small and marginal farmers. It has successfully undertaken pilot scale studies on farming of L. vannamei in freshwater aquaculture system. successful experimental farm trial has been carried out for farming of Pangasionodon hypophthalmus in low saline brackish water.
