Keeping pace with time, CIFE has developed various scientifically backed techniques for hatching and seed production of commercially important high value fishes. Among them, important species for which hatchery technologies have been developed include Machrobrachium rosenbergi, a member of non-penaeid prawn, catla - rohu hybrid, Indian magur and Indian major carps. The modification of rearing devices for carp spawn, and an improved circular hatchery design are also outcome of the CIFE’s long experience with hatchery and seed rearing practices.
Mass scale production of Indian magur seed is one of the much acclaimed success stories from CIFE. CIFE has established and demonstrated the mass scale production of Indian magur fingerling at Raipur for the Department of Fisheries, Chhattisgarh and supplied seeds to many locations in India.
CIFE has also been successful in breeding the giant freshwater prawn in artificial sea water thereby enabling us to even think of prawn hatchery in completely inland sector. |
