Rohtak Centre

Genesis

The Rohtak Center of CIFE undertakes research and training to provide aquaculture based solutions for inland areas affected by high ground-water salinity. The Centre was established in March 1996 and spans two villages Lahli and Baniyani located near Rohtak, Haryana. The 4.5 ha area of the farm falling in Lahli has freshwater ponds while the 10 ha farm at Baniyani has high ground-water salinity. The Center organizes short-term trainings for personnel from Fisheries Departments, researchers and fish farmers on appropriate aquaculture practices for inland saline areas. The Center has soil and water testing facility, wet lab and poly-house facility. The giant freshwater prawn hatchery has the capacity to produce 5.0 million seed annually.
