Project title: Nutrient Management in Aquaculture through Bacterial Biofilm

Personnel:

Achievements:

An experiment was conducted to study the growth increment in koi carp with biofilm using sugarcane bagasse as substrate in FRP tanks. From the experiment with varying quantities of sugarcane bagasse like 100 g (T1), 200 g (T2), 300 g (T3) as different treatments, it was found that in the presence of sugarcane bagasse as a substrate for biofilm development, there was significant increase in the growth of koi carp. There is a significant weight gain in treatments T1 (71.72%), T2 (61.61%), T3(54.96%) compared to the control (38.51%). It also shows that the quantity of sugarcane bagasse also should be optimum for the growth and survival of fish. These findings support the possibility of developing a low cost technology for promotion of fish growth through bacterial biofilm based production using substrates like sugarcane bagasse.
