In addressing the challenges posed by globalisation, and the requirements for knowledge and information, educational needs at all levels are changing. With these changes happening all around, there is a need to empower individuals by equipping them with required knowledge and skills.

With this background CIFE, which started as an in-service training centre for the professionals serving Department of Fisheries in different States and Union Territories of the country strives to create best learning systems, to strengthen their capacity in terms of scientific knowledge and operational skills.

CIFE, stands as premier almamater in global fisheries map. During the last four decades a good number of fisheries professionals from Asian, African and South American countries have been trained With headquarters being situated at Mumbai and centres located at four important places all over India, CIFE imparts Doctoral and  Masters programmes in frontiers areas of fisheries science like Fish Genetics, Fish Biotechnology, Fish Business Management, Fisheries Extension, Fish Pathology and Microbiology,  Aquaculture, Fisheries Resource Management, Aquatic Environmental Management, Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry and Post harvest Technology and also Post Graduate Diploma in Inland Fisheries. The mandate of institute is postgraduate teaching, basic research, training and consultancy in fisheries.

Over the years CIFE has excelled in fisheries education. The institute has been providing post graduate education in the frontier and emerging areas of fisheries education and has contributed immensely towards capacity building of various state fisheries departments, NGOs, private agencies and society per se.

CIFE endeavours in becoming a global leader in fisheries education and in advancement of knowledge.  Since inception, the institute has been imparting different kinds of demand driven training programmes for different clientele. Fishers, farmers, entrepreneurs, development personnel, and university teachers have benefited by such courses.

Consistent with its missions in teaching, research and extension; CIFE aims to get increasingly involved in the globalization of higher education, as this is becoming an integral and vital component of university life.

Eligibility  and  Application
Fisheries professionals, teachers and researchers. Preferably graduates with field experience. Candidates for the training course must be sponsored by the home countries, sponsoring organization or self. Application form with detailed biodata, passport number,  etc. should be sent to DDG (Education), ICAR, Krishi Anusandhan Bhawan II, Pusa Road, New Delhi – 1100 12 (Email: sptiwari@icar.org.in) with a copy to Director, CIFE, Versova, Mumbai-61 (Email: director@cife.edu.in) for information. Training fees will be US $ 4000 per candidate. On campus food and stay will be about US $ 20 per person per day. Accommodation will be provided on the campus. The fees of the each training programme should be made in the form of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of ICAR UNIT, CIFE, Mumbai, payable at State Bank of India, Mumbai. The DD should be submitted only at the time of the registration of the programme.
