Genesis
CIFE Kakinada Centre (Andhra Pradesh, India) is situated on the eastern outskirts of Kakinada town and is located about 2 km east of Kakinada Port railway station adjoining Bay of Bengal. The Center has two farms viz., i) Brackishwater fish farm located in the campus and ii) Freshwater fish farm located at Balabadrapuram village about 40 km away from Kakinada. CIFE Kakinada Centre was established in October 1968 after taking over the brackishwater fish farm at Kakinada from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. In 1974 the freshwater fish farm at Balabadrapuram, a village located at equidistance of 35 km between Rajahmundry and Kakinada, was taken on a long term lease basis from Govt. of Andhra Pradesh by CIFE, Mumbai. Both the farms had following objectives:
to impart field training in brackishwater and freshwater aquaculture to the trainees of CIFE, Mumbai, its other regional centers and to private entrepreneurs, farmers etc;
to develop brackishwater and freshwater finfish and shell fish farming;
to disseminate and popularize the brackishwater and freshwater farming through extension programmes.

The present CIFE Kakinada Centre came into being after merging of three then independent centers of CIFE, viz., Brackishwater Fish Farm, Fisheries Extension Training Center (both located at Kakinada in same campus) and Freshwater Fish Farm, Balabhadrapuram. It was named as "Aquaculture Research and Training Center of CIFE"(ARTC).

In 1997 ARTC was again rechristened as Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kakinada Centre
